Grafana, Loki & Promtail

This section describes the logging/visualization stack used in this Dashboard:

  • Grafana for dashboards
  • Loki for log storage/query
  • Promtail for shipping Docker container logs into Loki

Grafana connects to Loki for logs and typically to Prometheus for metrics (if Prometheus is enabled in your compose).

Key services (compose)

  • Grafana
  • Service name: grafana
  • Default port: 3000 inside the Docker network
  • Loki
  • Service name: loki
  • Default port: 3100
  • Internal URL: http://loki:3100
  • Promtail
  • Service name: promtail
  • Ships logs from /var/lib/docker/containers via Docker socket discovery

Data sources inside Grafana

  • Logs: configure Loki datasource with http://loki:3100
  • Metrics: configure Prometheus datasource with http://prometheus:9090 (if you enabled Prometheus)
